‘ Well. Wow. That was a pretty epic couple of days. When Billy and Alex first had the idea of doing some fairly lo-fi recording of ‘a couple of acoustic numbers’, we certainly didn’t think that a year later we’d have sold out our (we thought) fairly generous limited-edition first EP through pre-sale orders alone, in under 36 hours. We expected we’d sell a few copies, maybe ten or twenty, through Facebook, and then have some to sell at gigs alongside stuff like T-Shirts and stickers.
We knew we wanted to do something special, so the idea was we’d record some tracks in Alex’s studio, maybe record a live version or a cover or something, somewhere, unique to the EP, and then package it up with some exclusive artwork from Billy and put it out there. We decided to put a pre-order option on the shop ‘cos we knew there were a few people who’d want to get ‘first dibs’ on a copy; we didn’t have any idea that we’d see the orders flying in quicker than we could record them, and we were pretty surprised when we’d hit the first 30. We never, ever, expected to sell fifty-something by the following morning, and definitely not to sell out the whole, limited run (so much so that none of the band have actually ended up with a copy, and our management have had to actually buy one!) in under 36 hours from it going live (Alex had to take it down from the online shop at 6.00 this morning in order to make sure no-one was disappointed by us running out).
That blew us away, and the fact that we’re now getting comments and messages asking if you can still get one is amazing. The fact that we’re now discussing artwork and packaging for a second, non-limited ‘general’ run over and above the limited first 100 has totally floored us; in a world of downloads and Spotify, where apparently no-one buys physical ‘product’ anymore, for the debut EP of a band who’ve only actually played four gigs and which was only intended to be a fun little curiosity for a few people to sell out it’s first run before we’ve even got our hands on an actual real-life copy is just amazing.
We’re blown away. You guys are awesome; to everyone who’s ordered a copy, to everyone who’s TRIED to order a copy, and to everyone who’s come to see us at a show, interacted with us on Facebook or Twitter, or who’s booked us for a gig somewhere before we’d even played a note, you have our eternal gratitude. Thank you, every one of you.
